Custom Built Milking Bale
These were a common site in Wiltshire, where I grew up in the 1950's and 60's. I suppose that health and safety regulations and the advent of much larger herds made them redundant? Photos of real milking bales would be welcome, as I have none in my collection!
Built for me by my Father some 52 years ago! It's way out of scale, so that small hands could fit inside to move Britains cows for milking. The loft hatch opens and each milking stall has a sliding door, just like the real thing! This is in pre-restoration condition and even has the original 1960's string on the doors and a length of cord to pull it around with.

I thought it was the best thing in the world - and still do!

I've never seen another anywhere.
